Jack Callum Passing

Jack Callum, a beloved member of the Baseball Manitoba community, has passed away.

Jack was born in Miami, MB and became involved in Miami baseball as a player beginning in the late 1940s. In 1954, 1955 and 1956 the Miami team won the Rural Juvenile crown. Following his years of play he became involved in Manitoba baseball primarily as a builder and was involved in many developments over the years. He was greatly involved with the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, serving as Director in 1998, Vice-Chairman in 2002 and served as Chairman from 2003-2011. As Chairman he negotiated the lease of space in the Morden Community Complex and organized the Expansion Project of 2008-2010 which resulted in the current Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Jack was also a prominent fastball player and coach of the Seven Sisters team in the North Eastern Manitoba Fastball League. He served as the league president in 1961 and 1962. He was also highly involved in Manitoba curling as player, club president, and board member and chair of the Foundation of the Manitoba Curling Association.

Jack worked tirelessly to help develop baseball in Manitoba. He was instrumental in developing the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in Morden and was a 2020 Honorary Life Member. It is the volunteers like Jack who give hours and hours of their time behind the scenes that are so vital to our sport.

Jack's passing affects many people across the province, and all of us at Baseball Manitoba send our deepest condolences to the Callum family and his entire community at this time.
