Girls Are Tough

In the 21st century, when athleticism of all types is lauded and encouraged, it has become accepted and more common to see girls on the baseball diamond, playing a man’s game. Women are as capable and talented as men playing baseball. They are tough! We experienced this “toughness” on Saturday, July 17th, as young ladies took part in the Manitoba Baseball Tour held in Morden.
Baseball Manitoba hosted nine camps around the Province of Manitoba during July for girls ages 7-13. Many young ladies spent their time at the camp learning some basic skills of the game. Baseball Manitoba Administrator for the clinic was Britt Langlais from Garson, Manitoba. She is furthermore a Team Canada/Team Manitoba player. Also instructing was Team Manitoba members Katie Heppner from Morden, and Michayla Peacock from Somerset. These Team Manitoba members provided some quality instruction in a fun atmosphere.

“The girls baseball camps are an amazing opportunity for young Manitoba females to experience baseball in a fun and inviting atmosphere. As a coach of this program, it is amazing to see girls improve in the small-time frame we all spend together," said Britt Langlais.
"I also love seeing the girls form friendships that will last with other female participants. It’s a great experience that will leave a positive impact on all those involved, and it’s also going to have a huge contributing factor in growing baseball for females in Manitoba,” she emphasized.

“It was amazing, glad I could be part of it,” added Katie Heppner.
“I think it was such a great atmosphere for the coaches and the players,” underscored Michayla Peacock.

At the end of the day, the girls had an opportunity to build some mental muscle, improve their skills and have lots of fun.
