Baseball history was made twenty-three years ago when, from August 18 to 22, Baseball Manitoba, St. James Minor Baseball hosted the inaugural Canadian Baseball Girls Competition at Optimist Park in St. James.
At that time, 100 13U female players on teams representing Ontario (2 teams), British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba made “Girl’s Baseball a Big Hit!”
On the Baseball Manitoba “Dugout” fall edition of 1999, on the front page, Mallory Wray who was pictured, along with the team catcher, and coach Grant Alolph discussing strategy during one of Team Manitoba’s games.
Fast forward to August 18th to 21st. 2022, to the Western Canadian Girls Championship, being held at the same facility, the same young lady, Mallory (Wray) Fafard will be throwing the first pitch.
“I did play in 1999 with the U13 team in Winnipeg. What a great experience! I played with the team for five years following that and I enjoyed the Winnipeg one the most,” emphasized Mallory.
The championship opening ceremonies will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 19th, 2022.
