Sport Development Coordinator - Summer Employment

Roles and Responsibilities:

Baseball Manitoba (MBA) Sport Development Coordinator (SDC) will be responsible for aspects of programming and administration that are encompassed within the LTAD Active Start, FUNdamentals and Learn to Train athletes within Manitoba. There will be a primary focus on the Rally Cap Program and working with under-represented populations in Manitoba. The employee will report directly to the Program Director on aspects related to grassroots baseball in Manitoba as well as any other duties bestowed upon them.

Baseball Manitoba’s SDC will demonstrate a strong work ethic, high level of integrity and honesty. They must be attentive to detail, accurate in record keeping and possess an ability to work with a diverse constituency including players, parents, coaches, and volunteers. Baseball Manitoba will cover the phone plan costs and relevant job-related expenses during the time of hire. Baseball Manitoba will also cover mileage, meals, and accommodations, if required, for any approved travel around the province.

Areas of Responsibility:

The MBA SDC will be specifically responsible for the following list of responsibilities:

Rally Cap Program - The SDC will be responsible for the coordination of the Rally Cap Program. The SDC will support the Executive Assistant with the administrative duties for Rally Cap players and coaches. This will also include the promotion and scheduling of local Rally Cap Clinics that will train local conveners and/or coaches to have the ability to enable continuance of the program in that community.  The MBA must take a leadership role in the Rally Cap Program and it will be the responsibility of the SDC to manage all aspects of this critical area of MBA operations.  

Grand Slam Program - The SDC will be responsible for the coordination of the Grand Slam Program. The SDC will support the Program Director with the administrative duties for Grand Slam players and coaches.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion - The SDC will be the MBA liaison and activity leader for all female, indigenous, Inner City, New Canadian and other under-represented populations. The MBA’s SDC will Connect with MASRC, First Nation and Metis communities, and other organizations as required.

Camps and Clinics - This role will require the SDC to support the Program Director in the development and implementation of camps and clinics throughout the province. This includes, but is not limited to; Spring Break Camp, Winter Academy, 5-Tool Camps, Female Camps, Monster Mania, etc. The SDC will, in conjunction with the Program Director, organize, administer, and arrange for staffing of these events in a timely and efficient manner. If the SDC cannot attend an event in person, then an appropriate replacement(s) will need to be found.

Miscellaneous - The SDC may be given other duties by the Executive Director or Program Director which may include, but are not limited to, NCCP, NOCP, Online Membership Registration, and other required data entry or warehouse responsibilities.  The SDC will report directly to the Program Director in all areas of operations.

Desired Skills and Experiences:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of baseball and a passion for the game.
  • Must have a desire to be in a grassroots baseball environment.
  • Must have an excellent attitude and work well in a team setting.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills and demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of baseball programs, NCCP and LTAD principles.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work well with children.
  • Post-secondary education in Recreation management, or similar field is preferred.
  • 2 years of experience in a related field is preferred.
  • Must have their own vehicle and valid driver’s license, and a smart phone.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours (evenings and weekends).
  • Must have a current and clear Criminal Record and Child Abuse Registry Check.

Time of Work: 35 hours per week. April - August.

Compensation: $17/hour
