Ovide Cote, a long-time member of Vassar Minor Baseball, has passed away.
Ovide was one of the main contributors in the organization and delivery of youth baseball in the Southeast corner of Manitoba in the 1970's and 80's. He held executive positions in the Manitoba/Minnesota Little League (12U) and the North Border Babe Ruth league (14U) and played a lead role in Vassar Minor Baseball joining the Carillon Minor Baseball League. He coached a variety of age groups through these years and became a certified Baseball Manitoba umpire when there became a need in the organization. His last 15 years of involvement in baseball has been as a spectator, as he proudly watched his grandchildren play the sport he had a passion for.
Ovide loved to share stories of his playing days and was extremely proud of his induction, along with his 8 brothers and father, in the Baseball Manitoba Hall of Fame in 2007.
Ovide's passing affects many across the province and Baseball Manitoba sends its condolences to the Cote family and his entire community.
