Challenger Baseball

Manitoba Challenger Baseball Logo

Challenger Baseball is a program that provides youth and adults with cognitive or physical disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the full benefits of participating in baseball - at a level structured to their abilities.

Games are played in a fun, safe environment where no score is kept. Each participant is paired (one-on-one whenever possible) with an able-bodied "Buddy" who assists them throughout the game.

Buddies support Challenger athletes in many ways, including:

  • Pushing wheelchairs around the base paths
  • Assisting with how to hold and swing the bat
  • Providing protection from batted balls
  • Offering encouragement and guidance during play

Every participant is treated like any other player in a traditional baseball program:

  • Players wear official uniforms
  • Use standard baseball equipment
  • Play games at local baseball parks
