2018 Scholarship Winners Presented at Winnipeg Goldeyes Game

Baseball Manitoba's President, Tony Siemens, presented the Field of Dreams, and our 50th Anniversary Scholarships to the 2018 recipients before the Goldeyes faced off against the Fargo Moorhead RedHawks Wednesday evening.

Awarded To/Accepted on Behalf Of Owen Harms

A pitcher and middle infielder from Winnipeg, MB, Owen, will be attending Colby Community College in Kansas this fall, entering the faculty of Science where he plans to major in Biology. A member of Baseball Manitoba Provincial Team Program for 3 years, he also spent time at Home Run Sports Training Centre, in the Winnipeg South Chiefs AAA Program and most recently at Vauxhall Baseball Academy in Alberta. Owen was a member of the Silver Medal winning 2017 Canada Summer Games Team right here at Shaw Park last summer.

Awarded To/Accepted on Behalf Of Olivia Sheldon

A resident of Ste Rose du Lac and member of the Female Provincial Team Program for the past 5 years, Olivia, will be attending Canadian Mennonite University (CMU) in Winnipeg aspiring to obtain a Science Degree. She is a graduate of Dauphin Regional Comprehensive Secondary School, where she excelled as an athlete and as a student - maintaining a 95 percent average. Olivia is a true multi-sport athlete, competing in volleyball, basketball, badminton, athletics, softball and baseball. Olivia is also the recipient of Baseball Manitoba’s 50th Anniversary Scholarship, in the coaching category. She has been involved with the Can-Skate and Rally Cap Programs in her home town of Ste. Rose. She is great ambassador for the game when working with young players.

Awarded To/Accepted on Behalf Of Martin Gisiger

Martin will be a first-year student attending Williston State College in North Dakota on a baseball scholarship, where he will be pursuing Electrical Engineering. He attended College Beliveau where he excelled in Athletics and Volleyball, while maintaining a grade average in the 90’s. A three-time member of Baseball Manitoba’s Provincial Team Program including last years 2017 Canada Summer Games team that won the Silver medal, Martin played this summer for the Bonivital Blacksox, who captured the 18U AAA Provincial Championship in July. Martin is also the recipient of Baseball Manitoba’s 50th Anniversary Scholarship, in the Male Provincial Team Player category. He has embodied the true meaning of being a Team Toba player on the field on off, with his work ethic, positive attitude and respect for all others and the game.

Awarded To/Accepted on Behalf Of Jamie Johnson -  Female Provincial Team Player

A resident of Arborg and member of the Female Provincial Team for the past 6 years, Jamie has excelled as a pitcher and middle infielder. A multi sport athlete, having success in hockey, volleyball, athletics and badminton, she was named Female Player of the year by Baseball Manitoba in 2017 as she helped Team Manitoba capture the Bronze Medal at Nationals. Jamie is an exceptional student, graduating with honors and distinction from Arborg Collegiate Institute and earning the Governor General Award, Crown Centennial Scholarship and U of M Guertin Entrance Scholarship. She is enrolled at the University of Manitoba and intends to pursue a Science Degree.

Awarded To/Accepted on Behalf Of Stephane Legasse - Non Provincial Team Player

A resident of St. Adolphe and graduate from College Regional Gabrielle Roy, Stephane has demonstrated great workmanship and contribution to his community. He has played community and AAA baseball and worked as a local umpire, all while volunteering with various groups within his school and church community. Stephane is an excellent student and will continue his education at Itasca Community College, where he will continue to play baseball while aspiring to become an Athletic Therapist.

Awarded To/Accepted on Behalf Of Daniel Gussakovsky - Umpire

As an umpire in the Winnipeg South region for the past five years, Daniel was able to develop quickly and take part in several different Provincial Championships; 13U A in Rosenort in 2016, 13U AA in 2017 and 2018 and 18U AA in 2018. He is already a Level 3 umpire and has officiated every age group for AA City Championships. Daniel is entering his 3rd year at the University of Manitoba, pursuing a degree in Biochemistry. He is an above-average student being placed on the Dean’s Honour List both of his first 2 years in University.
