American culture has identified boys as baseball players and girls as softball players. Despite this cultural undercurrent, Manitoba has a wealth of girls on baseball teams.
They are authentic! Only if “normal” is being one of the elite players on their all-star baseball team. And what if all their teammates are boys. These girls are not interested in making a statement. They have played baseball their whole lives, and they are good.
Across the country, girls devoted to baseball, and with as many seasons of youth ball under their belts along side as their male teammates.
One such avenue is the Girls Baseball Program administered by the Manitoba Baseball Association. Presently, there are four female programs currently running - U14 Team Toba, U16 Team Toba, 21U Team Toba and Senior Women’s Provincial Teams.
The 14U Team Toba will be taking part in the Western Canadians being held in their home province of Manitoba on August 19-21, 2022.
“The host site, Optimist Park in Winnipeg has a long history of hosting provincial and national events. St. James Assiniboia Minor Baseball is pleased to partner with the Hosting Committee to be the host site for the 2022 14U Girls Western Canada Baseball Championships
It has hosted to the Pan Am Games, North American Indigenous Games, Western Canada, and National Championships,” stressed Treasurer Brent Mahoney.
“We are excited to host the 14U Girls Baseball Western Championship in Manitoba and look forward to a return to baseball,” indicated Roger Langlais, Chairperson, 14U Tournament Committee.
Be sure to come and cheer on Manitoba’s up and coming talent and enjoy a weekend of quality youth baseball.
